Anxieties and stress related conditions

An anxiety is a normal and universal human experience that results from a real or perceived danger or threat to safety. Anxiety might be generalised (without an objective focus), or of more specific cause, for example, fear of flying. All anxiety attacks boil down to fear response, fear of death in my opinion. Anxiety should be considered as a protective response that overactive and linked to future visions of the possible even occurring. All anxiety attacks consist of 3 stages, alarm, resistance and collapse. After the stressor is experienced, the body's natural response is to run away or fight back; that's why the sympathetic system is called the "fight or flight" system. The physical symptoms may result from anxiety are shortness of breath ( fast or forced breathing, breathlessness) dizziness, hot flushes, tachycardia, difficulty concentrating, trembling, and due to stress, some people might experience headache, recurrent abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, visual disturbance, vomiting, and sleep disturbances.

With that said, continuous, prolonged or chronic stress can keep the body's stress response way too active. With person experiencing constant anxiety attacks, meaning adrenalin, cortisol and endorphin levels are consistently high all the time, the person gets stuck in the stress response and can eventually create feedback loop that perpetuates as continuous panic attack which is extremely draining and debilitating in the nervous system; continuous stress cycle leads to muscle tension, can lead to tension headaches, to sleep disturbance, to bruxism etc… I must add also, with consistent elevating cortisol levels, the body has trouble fighting off infections because cortisol suppresses the immune and inflammatory systems of the body. Hence, living in such “survival mode” makes a person vulnerable to any illness and turn into a neurotic.

The anxiety response manifests in many forms such as Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Separation Anxiety, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), variety of phobias , in PSTD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Panic Disorders and panic attacks and more…..

Techniques to alleviate stress can be used by anyone at any time of stressful situation, the applications are endless…the aim for stress management is to switch off the critical/analytical active mind from rumination pattern of flight-fight response and at the same time to ensure the client has experienced total physical relaxation as well.
