EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique
EFT is based on the principle that the cause of all negative emotions and many physical illnesses is a disruption in the body’s energy system or in other words,
Negative Event/Thought or Memory triggers a disruption in the Body’ Energy System which is then experienced as Physical or Psychological misbalance (cause-effect relationship)
With that said, EFT involves the manipulation of the energy flow to relieve the emotional traumas that create psychological and often physiological problems and can be named as “emotional acupuncture”, except it does not involve needles!” in this approach, instead of trying to undo or release the thoughts or memories by traditional psychotherapy & counselling, EFT directly intervene in the intermediate step, seeking to relieve the disruption in the energy system and when relief occurs, a client may experience rapid recovery with no further discomfort or negative emotion remaining from the original event, thought or memory.
EFT was developed on principals of Dr. R Callahan who spent over 40 years finding ways how to cure people of irrational fears, phobias, and anxieties and as the result of his findings he created TFT (Thought Field Therapy). His student Gary Craig took the step further in developing an approach that is based on identifying a key point of the main 14 meridians, the terminal point or nearest accessible point and tap on each of these for every presenting problem. He refined the technique since the discovery and now it has become a system that anybody can use quickly and easily and which does not require therapeutic training, qualifications or even the knowledge of energy system!
EFT is one of the newest discoveries of Mind and Body Medicine; it combines aspects of traditional Chinese Medicine with modern Western psychology creating a formation that provides relief from emotional issues, pain, discomfort and illnesses. EFT takes the best of both worlds, body and mind; and the fact that it's EFT's ability to access the amygdala, an almond-shaped part of one’s brain that initiates body's negative reaction to fear, a process we often refer to as the "fight or flight" response, that makes it so powerful. Latest Research suggests that EFT may be so effective because of its apparent ability to balance out the nervous system, leveling off the activity of the parasympathetic and sympathetic regions (imbalance between these two parts is associated with a long list of health issues, from high blood pressure and heart problems, depression, fatigue, and weakened immune response, to name a few).
The technique involves tapping with fingertips to stimulate certain established energy meridian points whilst being tuned into the problem (for example, while talking through traumatic memories and a wide range of emotions caused by such memories).

I believe multiple psychosomatic conditions may be approached in the drug free manner coupled with supportive Client Centred approach and therefore can only advantage, support clients in their best interests. In my opinion, focusing on quality of the relationship with client is paramount as treatment itself.
